This article studies two years of Roberto Matta's higher education in Chile, during 1933-1935, left out by the artist in the process of self construction of his identity. Indirect references that offer indications and testimonies of certain events, about the historical context of those years, and some direct sources, show that Roberto Matta didn't travel to Europe at the begining of 1933, as he and his biographers and critics have said in a number of ocassions, but two years later, in 1935. This marks a huge difference between Matta's historic career path and the projection that the painter elaborated of himself.
