Resumen

The question of popular piety has gained special importance since the Second Vatican Council. In Chile, the crosscutting devotion that has generated the first saint of the country, Teresa de los Andes (1900-1920), and her own path to the altars, together with the construction of the Sanctuary of Auco, dedicated especially to her after her beatification in 1987, allows to study empirically this phenomenon during the last decades of the XXth century in Chile. From a historical perspective, the interpretation of the theoretical approaches to the popular piety, as the own manifestations of a pious audience at multiple levels that are preserved in this sanctuary, show the validity of the religious practices in a secularised world.
