Resumen
Objectives: To describe and report the prevalence of skin lesions associated to the sun and actinic cheilitis in fishermen of Caleta Portales and Caleta El Membrillo of Valparaíso, Chile.
Material and Methods: There were evaluated 155 fishermen. The examination was performed by two dentists previously calibrated that determined the presence of risk factors of skin lesions and actinic cheilitis.
Results: The majority of the evaluated ones were of men (77%), between 16 and 79 years old (mean of 49 years). A high number of the examined ones declared to be a smoker, corresponding to 58,7% of the population. A little more than the half of patients (53,55%) declared do not use solar protection. In 55 patients (35,48%) skin lesions were observed, being rosacea and actinic lentigo the most commons, and 35 patients presented actinic cheilitis.
Conclusions: Because the high prevalence of skin lesions associated to the sun and actinic cheilitis, in addition to the big number of patients exposed to the risk factors in the studied population, a major quantity of studies becomes necessary in similar populations to improve the campaigns of prevention of these diseases in fishermen.
