Resumen
Pathologic disorders of the peroneal tendons are an uncommon but underappreciated source of lateral hindfoot pain and dysfunction that can be difficult to distinguish from other lateral ankle injuries. Peroneal tendon disorders can lead to persistent lateral ankle pain and substantial functional problems, if they are not correctly approached and treated. Unfortunately, current recommendations for treatment (conservative and surgical) are based on small case series and experts’ opinion. The aims of this chapter are to develop a current understanding of the anatomy and clinical evaluation of the peroneal tendons and to establish a treatment algorithm. The authors’ preferred surgical techniques for management of peroneal tendon injuries are presented.
