Resumen
Endogenous regulators of inhibitory synaptic transmission strongly influence principal cell excitability. Deficits in such regulation could contribute to the development of epileptiform discharges in single cells as well as disturbed neuronal circuit activity. In this article we review the endogenous opioid and cannabinoid systems in the hippocampus. We compare their roles in regulating inhibitory synaptic transmission, and discuss recent evidence that suggests that they may overlap and perhaps interact.
