Resumen

Efforts are being made to improve treatment of patients with hallux valgus, to provide patients with better treatment outcomes and better postoperative rehabilitation. New techniques have been described, but none has proved to be an improvement. This article provides a biomechanical analysis of different surgical techniques currently being used, namely distal, diaphyseal, and proximal osteotomies for hallux valgus treatment. Their technical details, pitfalls, correction power, and internal fixation options are discussed, focusing on the options that improve the correction of deformities. An overview of results is also given, including some new surgical variations.
