Resumen
The figure of the Franciscan Gregorio Farías is unknown. Born in Valdivia around 1702, he is the author of the religious epic poem Escotida, dated in 1744 and dedicated to the Scottish Franciscan and Theologian John Duns Scoto (1265-1308), famous for having been one of the first to defend the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, a theme that runs through the entire work. The poem in question is preserved in two manuscripts: one kept in the Benedictine monastery of Las Condes, in Santiago, Chile, and the other in the Biblioteca Nacional of Spain. The objective of this article is to elucidate relevant textual aspects of the poem and some authorship problems, which will lead to a critical edition of the text.
