Resumen
This article presents, based on primary and secondary sources, a historical analysis of the origins of the Christian Left of Chile (IC), a political party founded in 1971 as a splinter group from the Christian Democratic Party. It aims to understand this schism in its generational component, stemming from the formation of a specific political and cultural community around shared doctrinal references and a common militant trajectory within the context of democratic factionalism. Thus, the IC's founding is rooted in the dynamics of the Christian Democratic "third way" group during the 1960s, itself led by former student leaders from the University of Chile, who managed to rally a large following to organize a new political force.
