Resumen

This chapter presents a case scenario of a 45-year-old woman who presents with medial sided fore-foot pain. Percutaneous surgery for hallux valgus (HV) is performed through the smallest possible incision, usually punctate incisions. Chevron (CH) and scarf (SC) are the most performed osteotomies for the treatment of HV. The most common complication in the HV treatment is recurrence. Preventing complications is a key goal in the HV surgery. Severe HV in adults is a challenging problem because they usually require an arthrodesis. SC and CH have similar outcomes and complication rates, surgeon’s preference and expertise should be considered in choosing between SC and CH. Lapidus in young adult patients and 1st metatarsophalangeal joint arthrodesis in older patients have similar outcomes for severe HV. The chapter also provides recommendations for implementing evidence-based practice in the clinical setting.
