Resumen

This paper analyzes the perceptions of the plenipotentiaries of the United States on leaders who marked the Argentinian and Mexican nineteenth century respectively: Rancher of Buenos Aires Juan Manuel de Rosas and the perennial General Santa Anna. Diplomatic reports support two hypothesis: i) These regimes were incompatible with US interests in the region; ii) there was disposition to propitiate or collaborate with its overthrew.
