Resumen
Local 6G networks represent a paradigm shift from a small number of nationwide mobile network operator (MNO) driven networks to a potentially large number of local network deployments by a variety of stakeholders for different purposes. Yet, the concept of local 6G networks is not clearly defined. Its realizations, including private networks, non public network, public and private neutral hosts, and vertical networks, among others, are often used interchangeably. This article proposes characterizing the local 6G network concept through the following key dimensions: spatial domain, temporal scope, intent-based approach, capabilities, stakeholder centricity, and local spectrum access. The article identifies key challenges towards widespread adoption of local 6G networks and proposes solution directions. A concrete case example is provided to showcase a local industrial 6G network illustrating our proposed approach. Our analysis sets the scene for local 6G network concept to create new local 6G network businesses in the 2030s.
