Resumen

To determine the effect of school context on tobacco smoking amongst Chilean adolescents. Methods: Multilevel logistic regression analyses were performed using large datasets with information about adolescent smoking behavior and individual-level and school-level variables. Results: There was an inter-school smoking variation in Chile and a significant school effect on adolescent smoking, partially explained by the influence of school bonding, school truancy and school math achievement. Conclusions: School has a role explaining smoking amongst Chilean adolescents.
