Resumen
This article attempts to give some interpretative keys to Cicero's De Amicitia, explaining its biographical genesis and tracing its reception of two Platonic-Aristotelian theses: 1. Friendship only occurs between the Good, and 2. Friendship supposes equality between friends. Showing the continuity between the De Amicitia with its Greek antecedents, an attempt will also be made to show what challenges De Amicitia posed for the subsequent philosophical and theological tradition.
