Abstract
The end of La verdad sospechosa has been issue of controversy among the critics, especially those of the xixth century. In that critics, it has been tried to see in the ending of the play from a situation of poetic justice to a rant against lies. The way we understand the ending affects how we interpret the entire play. We propose an interpretation of the end based on the conventions of the genre of the play itself, and on the need of give pleasure to the public, which allows to understand the comicality of the ending and the figure of don García as a «burlador burlado», cheated by the true itself.
