Abstract
This article proposes a renewed perspective to face the understanding of the cultural phenomena that took place in America during the Spanish conquest. To do so, it considers the European mentality of the first modernity, the process of articulation that originates the concept of the New World, as well as the diversity of pre-Columbian traditions. In the group of works produced at that time, it is possible to observe the process of formation of a New World that, although it presents a very singular physiognomy, at the same time configures a single one with the Old World.
