Abstract

This essay takes as its starting point the works of Paul Ricoeur on narrative, specifi cally his essay “Life: A Story in Search of a Narrator.” This essay analyzes: 1) the teleological structure of all narrative, espe-cially the critical importance of the end in all storytelling analogous to the end of life that occurs at the time of death. (2) the manner in which organization and confi guration of the plot is organized around what I call acts of radical freedom: crucial and relevant acts of life itself, full of past and future, which give orientation and meaning to temporality. Man needs to talk about his life in order to live it with understanding
