Abstract
The objective of the following article is to account the difficulties that Archbishop Bartolomé Lobo Guerrero had during his government when delegating pastoral visits to ad hoc priests, especially in relation to the doctrines of Indians administered by regular doctrinaires. Indeed, the archbishop of Lima had to face criticism of the royal authorities and the local church for not carrying out the visits personally. Likewise, he had to prevail over the regular doctrinaires, who refused to recognize the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the archbishop. Based on a case study, intertwined with correspondence, councils and canonical doctrine, it is revealed how the Tridentine objectives that sought the adequate transmission of sound doctrine were materialized, as well as the reform of discipline in the extensive diocese of Lima.
