Abstract

The following article analyses the observance of the Rule of Saint Clare of Assisi by the nuns of the Monastery of Saint Clare of Ancient Foundation (Santiago de Chile). Specifically, in this text we propose a review of the daily practice of silen-ce inside the walls. To do this we explore the relationship of these nuns with the hierarchy of the diocese, from a selection of Pastoral Visits and Synods of Santiago during the seven-teenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This study contri-butes to the knowledge of the Order of Saint Clare in Chile because, up to now, there is no monographic work covering the history of four centuries of this community of women.
