Abstract
At an end zone of the country, inhabited by scarce and poor population, amid difficult geographic and climatic conditions, the territory of colonization of Llanquihue was consolidated surprisingly fast, so that on 1861 was constituted in province. Its capital would be Puerto Montt - city that had been founded recently with the arrival of the first german settlers -, which adquired a dinamic of growth that exceeded very soon the ancient towns of the zone. The joint action of chileans and germans, with the decisive state support, explain this remarkable evolution. This process is compared to Punta Arenas city, Region of Magallanes and Chilean Antartica.
