N2 - Whatever happened to the angels? Even though the ontological reality of our “almost faceless brothers,” to quote from Ernst Meister, does not seem to be taken seriously any longer in Western thought, modern culture is crammed with angels. Considering this remarkable phenomenon, this forum on angelic poetry gives a panoramic and interdisciplinary view on angels in nineteenth- and twentieth-century occidental poetry. Contributions include general and author-specific perspectives, taking into account not only the literary, but also the theological (and angelological) perspective.
