Abstract
From a comparative perspective, the article suggests that the privileged access to the truth that both the gracioso Pasquín has in Calderón’s La cisma de Ingalaterra and the Fool in Shakespeare’s King Lear will not only announce the catastrophe that will befall the two kings and kingdoms, but also serves as a theatrical mechanism of suspense, remarkably worked on by both playwrights, albeit in different ways.
