Abstract
This paper analyzes the ideas about fair wages put forward by Francisco Suárez in his Conselhos e pareceres. The authors try to show that Doctor Eximius reveals a deep concern for the human-social aspect of work, approaching in this matter some postulates of modern labor law. In this sense, Suárez’s position differs from that held by other scholastics of the 16th-17th centuries, who limited themselves to discussing the problems of the relationship between work and fair wages within a primarily economic framework.
