Abstract

Social networks has evolved new ways of political communication and has incorporated digital spaces for dialogue and debate between candidates and citizens. Through the case study of Mae Montaño, an Afro-Ecuadorian delegate for the political party Creando Oportunidades (CREO), we analyze how political leaders project their image on Twitter. In this research of mixed method we use Twitonomy and Conversocial programs to extract and analyze the data. In addition, we applied content analysis technique to determine the issues and language uses of legislator woman. The results reveal that the engagement with her followers is ‘organic’ she doesn’t pay for publicity. But, she doesn’t have a clear political communication strategy, most of the contents of their publications are retweets and she doesn’t use audiovisual resources. Definitely, this legislator use Twitter like a broadcasting platform.
