Abstract
The growing number of power electronics-based equipment has impacted the quality of electric power supply. Both high-power industrial loads and domestic loads cause harmonics in the network voltages. At the same time, much of the equipment causing the disturbances is quite sensitive to deviations from the ideal sinusoidal line voltage. Therefore, power quality problems may originate in the system or may be caused by the consumer. Active power filters have been proven to be the most effective way to overcome power quality problems. This chapter provides an in-depth review of active filter topologies, critical aspects of their control techniques, and examples of actual applications.
