Professional Information

I obtained my degree as a dental surgeon in 1976 at the University of Chile with the highest distinction, and entered as an assistant to the Chair of Dental Surgery in which I became Professor in charge of the Clinical Surgery Course of four years, with the academic category of Ordinary Assistant Professor

Then I was the Professor in charge of the Specialty of Restorative Dentistry Mention Cariology, in parallel I served as Manager of Professional Relations of Colgate Palmolive Chile until reaching the position of Director of Scientific Affairs for the Southern Cone.

Teaching

In 2005 I joined Andes University as a contract professor responsible for the Cariology semester course in the third year and began to develop the transversality of the contents of Cariology throughout the curriculum from the first to sixth year. I also participated as a guest lecturer in the Microbiology course in the second year and in the postgraduate courses of Orthodontics, Endodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, and Endodontics.

Since 2016 I have had a contract professor to date with 18 hours to develop our subject in the topics of caries research and erosive dental wear I am organizing the coming to Chile of Stefanía Martignon from Universidad del Bosque, Dr. Margherita Fontana from the University of Michigan, Dr. Bente Nyvad from the University of Arhus, Dr. Adrian Lussi from the University of Bern and Dr. David Bartlett from Kings College of London, this allowed us to be the first university in Chile with internationally calibrated teachers in the ICDAS caries detection criteria and the BEWE index to evaluate dental wear.

We have actively participated in the design of a caries curriculum for Chilean universities and in the Latin American curriculum together with the Latin American Oral Health Association (LAOHA) and the creation of the Latin American Consensus “Prevalence, perspectives, and challenges of dental caries in Latin American and Caribbean countries”, Latin American Oral Health Association (LAOHA) as a member of the Cariogenic Risk Assessment 2020 group.

Research interests

In teaching research, I participate in the project Development of a transversal curriculum in cariology, contents and indicators of clinical application and clinical calibration processes for examiners in detection and severity of caries using the ICDAS ICCMS Caries Care International criteria and for erosive dental wear lesions, BEWE index with “Gold expert” and projects on Prevalence, associated factors and progression of erosive dental wear lesions in children and adults.
