Professional Information

Rodrigo Fernandez was born in Santiago de Chile in 1958. He is Civil Engineer from the University of Chile, Diploma of Imperial College (DIC), MSc and PhD in Transport of University of London. He has 35 years of professional and academic experience.

In 1986 he began in the academic career in the Department of Civil Engineering of University of Concepción (Chile) where he founded the Transport Engineering Group. In 1992 he moved to the Department of Civil Engineering of University of Chile, becoming Head of the Transport Division.

In March 2006 he joined the University of the Andes (Santiago-Chile), being Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences between 2010 and 2013. He is currently Full Professor of this academic unit.

 

Research interests

His research interests are traffic modelling, traffic engineering and management, and public transport. He has worked in more than a dozen research projects on these topics. Professionally he has worked as a free lance consultant in about forty transport engineering studies. He is author of two books, four chapters in books, more than thirty publications in journals, and seventy articles in national and international conferences.
