Professional Information
Dr. Patricio Moreno is a Civil Engineer form Universidad de Santiago de Chile, with a M.Sc. In Environmental Engineering from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering in the University of California, Davis. Dr. Moreno started working at Facultad de Ingeniería y Ciencias Aplicadas of Universidad de los Andes on 2014.
Research Interests
Dr. Moreno is a member of the Green Technology Group, and focuses on solving problems of environmental interest, particularly modeling of complex flows by means of numerical approximation. The focus of his research involves computational simulation of flows involving more than one phase (liquid-solid, liquid-gas, gas-solid, liquid-gas-solid) known as multiphase flows. In later years Dr. Moreno has been involved in: the simulation of the resuspension of sediment particles due to the action of wind waves in lakes; simulation of sediment particles transported by turbulent flows by using Eulerian-Lagrangian approaches with applications in natural streams as well as in mining slurry; and transport of contaminants in air flows through porous media (biofiltration). Dr. Moreno has also started incipient research on the simulation of air moving through wind turbines and capillary movement of water in hydrating cement paste. Dr. Moreno teaches courses on Fluid Mechanics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Hydraulics, and Introduction to the Simulation of Turbulent Flows.
