Doctor in Hispanic Philology from the University of Navarra. His areas of interest are Philology, Literature and Colonial History, Spanish Literature of the Golden Age and Chilean Literature. He has been an academic at the Letters Faculty of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2004-2010), and since 2011 at the Literature Institute of the Universidad de los Andes (Chile), where he is a full professor. He is an associate member of GRISO (Grupo de Investigación Siglo de Oro-Universidad de Navarra).

In addition to thirty articles on colonial literature, literature from the Golden Age and Chilean literature, he has published critical editions of the picaresque novels "Alonso, mozo de muchos amos" (1624-1626), by Jerónimo de Alcalá Yáñez (Iberoamericana-Vervuert , 2005) and "Periquillo el de las gallineras" (1668), by Francisco Santos (IDEA, 2013), and in the colonial or Indian area critical editions of the texts "Historia de todas las cosas que han acaecido en el reino de Chile "(1575), by Alonso de Góngora Marmolejo (Iberoamericana-Vervuert, 2010; revised edition in Universitaria, 2015); "Desengaño y reparo de la guerra del reino de Chile" (1614), by Alonso González de Nájera (Universitaria, 2017), and "Sumario de la Historia general del reino de Chile" (1674), by the Jesuit Diego de Rosales (Universitaria , 2019).
