Registered Nurse (RN) graduated from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. First Chilean RN with an advanced practice master´s degree (New York University). PhD degree granted by the University of Pennsylvania, whose School of Nursing is one of the most prestigious worldwide. I have an academic career of more than 20 years, with experience in nursing education and healthcare management. I have been a member of the Board of Directors of the School of Nursing at Universidad de los Andes, where I work since 1998, and of the University Hospital, where I became the Chief Nurse Officer during its construction and early years of operation. I developed the curriculum and became the director of the first Advanced Practice Master´s program in Chile. I have expert knowledge in hospital nursing workforce management and advanced nursing practice. For my PhD degree, I worked at the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research, leaded by Dr. Linda Aiken. My research field relates to nursing workforce organization, hospital work environments, and their impact on patient outcomes. I have developed this research area in collaboration with Drs. Linda Aiken and Eileen Lake, both with a vast research trajectory. I am a coinvestigator in the RN4CAST-CHILE project, leaded by Dr. Linda Aiken, and my doctoral dissertation presents some of the results of this study. The project, the largest one regarding association between nursing workforce organization and patient outcomes in Latin America, was developed with the participation of 40 Chilean hospitals and more than 1,600 registered nurses.
