I began my professional career as a nurse in the ICU at Luis Calvo Mackenna Pediatric Hospital, an experience that strengthened my clinical foundation over four years. I later joined the School of Nursing at the Universidad de los Andes, first as a clinical instructor and subsequently as faculty, progressively assuming academic and administrative responsibilities.

I have held several leadership positions, including Academic Secretary of the Bachelor of Arts and Sciences Program, Deputy to the University Secretary General, Director of the School of Nursing for six years, and later Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery for two terms. I led teams that achieved significant institutional milestones, such as a 7-year accreditation, positioning the School of Nursing among the top five nursing programs in the country, establishing the School of Midwifery, and developing and implementing the first Master’s Program in Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) in Chile. I also strengthened strategic areas such as External Engagement, Continuing Education and Graduate Programs, and established a doctoral training agreement with the University of São Paulo for faculty development.

In parallel, I have actively contributed nationally and internationally to the advancement of APN. I collaborated with the Ministry of Health on the National Cancer Plan and participate in global research networks. I was recognized among the 100 leading nurses in Latin America by Sigma Theta Tau and collaborated with the World Health Organization on the development of the State of the World’s Nursing Report 2025.

I currently serve as an Associate Professor and member of the Rector’s Council at the Universidad de los Andes, and I am in the fourth year of my PhD in Nursing at McMaster University.

As a researcher, I have led three major projects: “Role of Advanced Practice Nursing in Health Services Related to Law Nº 16.744” (2024–2025), “Building Evidence to Optimize the Contribution of the Nursing/APN Workforce to the Chilean Health Reform” (2023), and RN4Cast-Chile (2018–2020). These projects, along with international research collaborations, have resulted in 14 peer-reviewed publications in Spanish and English, as well as two book chapters. I am a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research at the University of Pennsylvania, a Junior Researcher at the Canadian Center for Advanced Practice Nursing Research, and a member of the Research Subgroup of the Advanced Practice/Nurse Practitioner Network of the International Council of Nursing. I have been invited to speak at numerous conferences and have presented my work at various scientific meetings. I have also served on scientific committees for international congresses.

Additionally, I have been invited to review manuscripts for the Journal of Nursing Management and serve on the editorial board of Salud Comunitaria, the journal of the University of the Andes.

Throughout my academic career, I have taught courses in Pediatric Nursing, Emergency Care, and Clinical Internship within the undergraduate Nursing program. At the graduate level, I have taught in the Master’s Program in Health Sciences Education and currently teach the Leadership course in the Master’s Program in Advanced Practice Nursing at the University of the Andes. In this program, I have also supervised the capstone projects of three students.
