Professional Information

Graduated in Biomedical Sciences from the Universidade do Algarve, Portugal. After completing a Master of Science in Molecular Medicine, at Cranfield University, UK, Dr. Monteiro carried out a PhD in Biomedicine at Imperial College London, with mention in signalling, transcription and chemoresistance in cancer. In 2013, Dr. Monteiro joined the Laboratory of Biology of Reproduction at the Universidad de los Andes, Chile, as a post-doctoral fellow and she is currently working as Associated Research at the Faculty of Medicine at the same University.

Research Interests

Over the past 6 years Dr. Monteiro has been focusing her research on understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in implantation in normal pregnancy and pregnancies complicated with preeclampsia. She has also been interested in the identification of accurate biomarkers for early prediction of women at risk of developing preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and spontaneous abortion, with the ultimate goal of developing efficient prevention strategies for pregnant women.
