Professional Information

Kattia Alejandra Muñoz Navia is an Early Childhood Educator and holds a Bachelor’s in Education from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She earned a Master of Science in Language Teaching from the University of Edinburgh (Scotland) and completed the Global TESOL Certificate Program at the University of Georgia (USA).

She worked for eight years in preschools and schools in Chile, the U.S., and Scotland as an early childhood educator and coordinator, and contributed to the Ministry of Education in teacher training.

Since 2013, she has been part of Universidad de los Andes' academic team, teaching undergraduate and graduate students—especially in the Master’s in Psychopedagogy—and engaging in research in language, literacy, and mathematics education.

Research interests

Her research focuses on early literacy development, with a strong emphasis on phonological awareness in children from low-income backgrounds. She has designed and implemented intervention programs that incorporate teacher professional development, classroom observation, and feedback.

She also examines executive function development in early childhood and its connections to learning and literacy processes.

Teaching

At Universidad de los Andes, she is a full-time assistant professor in the School of Education. She teaches courses like Professional Practice, Assessment and Statistics, Disciplinary Research Seminar – Language, Language and Literacy I, and Applied Teaching III.

She is also part of the teaching team for the Master’s in Psychopedagogy and has led workshops on language evaluation using instruments like PHMS and TEVI‑R in educational settings.
