Juan Pedro Ronconi, PhD

I am an empirical economist studying how psychological and institutional factors shape belief formation, decision-making, and outcomes for individuals and organizations. 

I am affiliated with the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), the Innovation Growth Lab (IGL), and the Human Development Lab at Universidad de los Andes.

I obtained my Ph.D. in Economics at Brown University in 2023.

My research spans two areas: (1) the performance of entrepreneurs and small firms—especially in digital markets—where I study strategic decisions such as the use of narratives, AI adoption, operations planning, and social media advertising; and (2) belief formation and social integration through institutions including the military and sports. My work combines rigorous causal analysis with practical interventions, using field experiments, surveys, and large-scale data, and is generally focused on Latin America.
