Personal profile

Professional Information

My professional career has been characterized by diverse and sustained experience in different areas of journalism. I have worked in print media, digital media, and radio, as well as collaborating on audiovisual projects, which has given me a broad understanding of the routines and languages specific to each platform.

However, the area in which I have spent the most time is that of organizations and institutions, especially during the seven years I worked as communications manager for the PAR Explora Coquimbo science outreach project. In this role, I actively participated in initiatives aimed at strengthening the training and appreciation of scientific knowledge among students and teachers, which also meant direct exposure to the world of university teaching. This experience led to the opportunity to teach courses related to science communication at the Catholic University of the North, the University of La Serena, and currently at the University of the Andes.

Along with this, I have cultivated a particular interest in sports journalism, developing projects such as coverage of the Chilean First Division Football Tournament, the creation of the Triunfos en Rojo website, and reporting on major events such as the Women's Copa América and various school tournaments.

Research interests

Throughout my academic career, I have developed a line of research focused on science communication and the analysis of social media as spaces for dissemination, with particular attention to their potential as vehicles for citizen learning.

Since 2022, I have conducted studies on the role of the Chilean media, the use of social platforms such as Instagram, professionals' perceptions of the current state of science journalism, and the challenges posed by misinformation, all of which are supported by publications. These works demonstrate my intention to contribute to the positioning of science communication in Chile, as well as my appreciation of this discipline as a strategic means of promoting the transmission of knowledge in an increasingly dynamic digital ecosystem. Within this framework, recent advances in my research have focused on exploring the intersection between science communication and sports journalism, an area that opens up opportunities to understand how media narratives can integrate scientific knowledge in contexts of high social impact.

This latter approach, which I have been developing during the current year, also reveals the gaps and voids in research that persist in sports communication, constituting a fertile field for the production of new academic knowledge.

Teaching

I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Communication at the University of the Andes, where I joined in March 2024. During this time, I have taught various courses covering different areas of the discipline, including Communication Research (a fourth-year elective in Advertising), Fundamentals of Communication (first year of Journalism), Communication and Sports (a fourth-year elective in Journalism), Culture and the Digital Environment (fourth year of the School of Communication), and Interactive Platforms (4th year of Audiovisual Communication).

I also work as an assistant professor for the elective course Communication and Science and am a member of the Doctorate in Communication faculty at the same university, where I teach the course Journalism and Reality (2nd year). My teaching experience also includes work at other institutions: at the University of La Serena, I taught the subjects Audiovisual Narrative, Digital Journalism, Television Journalism, and Scientific Journalism; while at the Catholic University of the North, I collaborated as an assistant professor in the Science and Society course. This career path reflects a solid and cross-disciplinary academic background, focused on teaching at different levels and in different areas of journalism, communication, and their intersection with science and digital culture.
