José Miguel de Toro Vial es historiador, obtuvo el grado de PhD en Historia en la Université de Poitiers (Francia), después de realizar un máster en civilización antigua y medieval también en Poitiers, y su licenciatura en Historia en la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Se desempeña como Profesor Asociado en el Instituto de Historia de la Universidad de los Andes.
Ha participado en proyectos FONDECYT, ha llevado a cabo estancias de investigación en Europa y ha contribuido activamente al estudio académico medieval desde Chile.
