Professional Information

José Delpiano did his BSc in Electrical Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2003) and works at the Universidad de los Andes since 2004. José is PhD in Electrical Engineering, Universidad de Chile (2013). He was a Visiting Lecturer at University College London, UK (2015). He has been part of the board of the Chilean chapter of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) several times.

His research interests are in the fields of computer vision and image analysis, particularly concerning computational intelligence techniques. Dr Delpiano has worked on motion analysis problems, especially the estimation of optical flow and tracking of objects. He has focused mainly on biological and bioprocess applications. More recently, he has ventured into studying the application of computer vision to problems related to precision agriculture. In the area of computational intelligence, he has experience in genetic algorithms, convolutional neural networks and transfer learning applied to computer vision problems such as classification and segmentation.
