Research interests

Jorge Mittelmann's research focuses on Aristotle's psychology, metaphysics and action theory, with a special emphasis on the Peripatetic and Neoplatonic reception of the main Aristotelian tenets. His published work has discussed puzzles about Aristotle’s definition of the soul and his conception of ‘life’, drawing on texts from Alexander, Philoponus and Porphyry, among other ancient authors. His papers have been accepted/published in venues such as Ancient Philosophy, the Archiv für Geschichte der Philosophie, Elenchos, Methexis, Rhizomata and the Journal of the History of Philosophy; he has also co-authored an article published in Phronesis. Professor Mittelmann has contributed to (and has been the editor of) collective books about these topics, as well as being the author of a Spanish anotated translation of the two first treatises of Aristotle’s Organon.
