Research Interests

Jorge Gaete Olivares is Medical Doctor from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile with a Master's degree in Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology. In addition, he is a Specialist in Adult Psychiatry from University of Chile, and he holds a PhD in Psychiatric Epidemiology from the University of Bristol, England. He did a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Center for Global Mental Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and a Clinical Research Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at King's College London, also from the United Kingdom. His research interests are oriented to know the risks and protective factors of mental health problems and substance use among children and adolescents, and he is also involved in several research projects about testing the effectivenes of preventive interventions in mental health, school violence, and bullying in children and adolescents. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Education at the Universidad de los Andes, an Associate Researcher at the Millennium Nucleus to Improve Mental Health for Adolescents and Young People, IMHAY and an expert convened by the World Health Organization to conduct the development of the School Health Services Guideline.

  • Effectiveness of universal, selected and indicated preventive intervention on mental health among children and adolescents.
  • Effectiveness of school-based interventions against bullying, substance use problems and other risk factors.
  • To study risk and protective factors associated with psychopathology among children and adolescents.
