Research Interests

She studied Biochemistry at the Universidad de Chile, Chile. Then she moved to Madrid, Spain, where she did a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). Currently she works as a Professor and researcher at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad de los Andes, as well as holding a position as a researcher at Cells for Cells and Regenero, the Chilean Regenerative Medicine Consortium. Dr. Cuenca belongs to the Laboratory of Nano-Regenerative Medicine, located in the Center for Biomedical Research and Innovation (CIIB), investigating the therapeutic effect of mesenchymal/stromal stem cells (MSCs) in the treatment of different inflammatory pathologies such as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), sepsis or wound healing. Research lines: Cell Therapy; Immunomodulatory effects of Mesenchymal Stem Cells; Autoimmune Diseases; Mechanisms in Autoimmune Diseases; Inflammation/miRNA; Molecular and Cellular Biology; Bioprocessing and Cellular Manufacturing
