Full Professor at the School of Nutrition and Dietetics of the Faculty of Medicine. Associate Researcher at the Center for Biomedical Research and Innovation (CIIB). He is founder and director of the Biopolymer Research and Engineering Lad.(BiopRel) located at CIIB. 

Additional Research Interests

His research focuses on the study of polymers of natural origin and their modification, for the development of application in science and technology of food and nutrition. He also collaborates actively with researchers for the development of marine collagen-based biomaterials for potential uses in biomedicine.

In the last 10 years, he has directed, co-directed or sponsored 13 ANID and 10 CORFO projects. Additionally, he has participated in 4 Fondecyt projects as a co-investigator. His research has generated 52 indexed publications (SCOPUS), 9 internationally published book chapters, 5 PCT patent applications and over 90 presentations at national and international conferences.

He was a member and director of the Engineering Group 3 at Fondecyt Program between 2016 and 2018. He is currently a member of the Research Council of the Office for Research of the Universidad de los Andes. He is part of the Academic Committee of the PhD in Biomedicine Program and the CIIB executive committee. At the national level, he collaborates with researchers from the Universidad de Santiago, Universidad Federico Santa María, Universidad Católica. Internationally, he collaborate with the University of Nottingham, University of Bristol, University of Manchester, Quadram Institute in the UK.
