Professional Information

Hugo Benedetti Espinoza is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and Finance at ESE Business School, Universidad de los Andes (UANDES).

He earned his Ph.D. in Finance from Boston College. His professional experience includes roles such as Director of the Master's in Finance at Universidad del Desarrollo, Corporate Finance Manager at Deloitte, Partner at Phi Partners, and Head of Corporate Finance at American Appraisal.

He has also worked as an Associate Consultant at The Boston Consulting Group and Investment Manager at AXA Capital Chile's Venture Capital Fund. 

Research interests

Dr. Benedetti's research focuses on the analysis of cryptoassets and blockchain, particularly the price dynamics of tokens and the impact of on-chain transactions on cryptoasset markets. His most notable paper, co-authored with Gabriel Rodríguez-Garnica, received the “Best Paper Award” at the 7th Conference in Crypto Research in Dubai in 2024. This work explores how transactions between users and towards crypto exchanges affect token prices, offering new insights into the utility and supply of these digital assets.

Teaching

In his academic role, Professor Benedetti teaches courses in the Department of Economics and Finance, with a particular focus on topics related to cryptoassets, blockchain, and fintech.
