Professional Information
Dr. Horacio Figueroa Diesel is a Medical Doctor graduated from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Maternal-Fetal Medicine. He holds a Master’s degree in Medical Sciences with a focus on Reproductive Biology from the University of Chile and completed postgraduate studies in Perinatology at Hospital Vall d’Hebron in Barcelona, Spain.
He currently serves as an Extraordinary Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine at Universidad de los Andes and as Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Clínica Universidad de los Andes.
Research interests
Dr. Figueroa leads research in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, focusing on intrauterine growth restriction, twin pregnancies, and twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. His work also includes advanced fetal therapies such as fetoscopic surgery, fetal ultrasonography, and prenatal diagnosis.
He has contributed to major international studies on fetoscopic correction of myelomeningocele, playing a key role in advancing this field in Chile.
Teaching
As an Extraordinary Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine at Universidad de los Andes, Dr. Figueroa teaches courses in the Medical program, especially in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He also coordinates the clinical internship in these specialties, promoting a teaching approach that combines theory with clinical practice and encourages active, student-centered learning.
