Research Interests

Hernán Corral is a lawyer, with Juris Doctor degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a Doctor (Ph) of Law from the Universidad de Navarra (Pamplona, Spain). He is a Regular Full Professor and researcher, teaching Civil Law and in Research Methodology and Fundamentals of Private Law courses in the Doctorate program. His research work has covered various thematic areas such as the law of the person, the legal treatment of the family, contractual relationships and new trends in civil liability. He is the author of several books, in addition to numerous articles in specialized journals. His first works were De la ignorancia de la ley Editorial Jurídica de Chile, Santiago, 1987, y La declaración de fallecimiento, a work published in Spain by Tecnos, Madrid, 1991. His most recent books are Curso de Derecho Civil. Parte general, Thomson Reuters, Santiago, 2018; Solidaridad obligacional. Diez estudios sobre sus aspectos civiles y procesales (in co-authorship with Alejandro Romero), Tirant Lo Blanch, Valencia, 2019; and Curso de Derecho Civil. Bienes, Thomson Reuters, Santiago, 2020. He is a member of the Editorial Committee of the Revista Chilena de Derecho and the Revista de Derecho Privado (Spain). In April of 2013 he was incorporated as a Miembro Numerario of the Academia de Ciencias Sociales, Políticas y Morales of Instituto de Chile. He has directed and has been a co-researcher of Proyectos Fondecyt. He was a member of the Fondecyt Study Group on Legal and Political Sciences between 1997 and 2002, and between 2012 and 2015.
