Helia Cecilia Morales, Magister

Dr. Helia Morales Medina is a Medical Doctor graduated from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, with a specialization in Internal Medicine and a Master's degree in Medical Sciences with a focus on Nutrition from Universidad de Chile. Currently, she serves as a Full Professor and Researcher I at the School of Medicine at Universidad de los Andes, where she leads the Department of Internal Medicine. Her academic and professional career spans over 25 years, during which she has made significant contributions to the training of medical interns and residents, as well as the development of specialization programs in Internal Medicine.

In addition to her teaching role, Dr. Morales Medina maintains an active clinical practice at Clínica Universidad de los Andes, specializing in diabetology. Her clinical approach focuses on the comprehensive management of patients with diabetes, addressing both medical and nutritional aspects of the disease.

Dr. Morales Medina has focused her research interests on areas related to Internal Medicine, particularly in the management of chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. She has participated in studies exploring the relationship between nutrition and the control of these conditions, seeking strategies to improve patients' quality of life and optimize available treatments. Her interdisciplinary approach has enabled her to collaborate with professionals from various fields to comprehensively address the challenges posed by these diseases.

As a faculty member at Universidad de los Andes, Dr. Morales Medina teaches fundamental subjects in the training of medical students, such as Internal Medicine I and II, Semiology, Nutrition, and Diabetes. Her teaching methodology is characterized by a practical and approachable approach, integrating theory with clinical experience to prepare future physicians to face the challenges of professional practice. Additionally, she has been recognized for her teaching work, receiving the prestigious Laureate Award from the American College of Physicians in 2019, in recognition of her career and excellence in teaching Internal Medicine.
