Professional Information

Francisco Hernández has been an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences of Universidad de los Andes, Chile, since 2023. Previously, he served as a faculty member at the University of Chile for six years, where he was Director of RENADI as well as of the Arturo Arias Laboratory and the Experimental Structures Laboratory.

He earned his Civil Engineering degree and Master’s degree in Seismic Engineering from the University of Chile, and his PhD from The University of Western Australia, in Perth. He has published over 23 articles in Web of Science-indexed journals, and more than 50 papers in national and international conferences. He has led scientific research projects and participated as co-investigator in several others.

Research interests

Structural health monitoring, structural dynamics and experimentation, earthquake engineering, seismic response of structures (buildings, bridges, and industrial facilities), explosions and impacts.

Teaching

Throughout his academic career, he has supervised over 30 undergraduate theses and 5 master's theses. He is currently supervising 5 undergraduate students and one master's student, and serves as co-supervisor for several doctoral students.
