Personal profile

Professional Information

At the beginning of my career, I combined professional work in media with teaching at the Faculty of Communication at Universidad de los Andes. Later, I worked at a think tank conducting research on media studies. Since 1999, I have devoted myself exclusively to academia at the Faculty of Communication at Universidad de los Andes. In 2006, I completed my doctoral dissertation on the sociology of the media. Since then, I have focused my research on issues related to journalism ethics and newsmaking, and I have taught undergraduate and graduate courses in those same areas.

Research interests

I focus on two areas of teaching: first, journalism and audiovisual communication ethics. My teaching in this field requires me to stay constantly updated on the codes of ethics of different media outlets and institutions, as well as to study how these codes are put into practice. The second area of my teaching relates to journalistic routines. This includes both the traditional processes of selecting events, editorial meetings, and news prioritization, as well as newer developments such as the incorporation of artificial intelligence and user-generated content.
