    Personal profile

    Professional Information

I obtained my degree in Dental Surgery 20 years ago, subsequently specializing in Periodontology and earning a Master's degree in Research in Dental Sciences. Throughout these years, I have combined my professional activity as a periodontist, as a teacher, and researcher.

I joined the Universidad de los Andes in 2006 in Dental Biomaterials. After completing my postgraduate studies in Periodontology, I became part of the academic team in Periodontology and Oral Implantology.

Currently, I am an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Dentistry, and I belong to the Department of Pathology and Conservative Dentistry.

    Teaching

Early in my teaching career, I served as a professor in Dental Biomaterials.

Following my postgraduate studies in Periodontology, I joined the team of Periodontology and Oral Implantology, teaching both undergraduate and graduate students.

Currently, I provide clinical instruction in Periodontology, lead the Research Methodology module for Periodontology and Implant specialty students, and participate as a faculty member in the Master's program in Dental Science Research, specifically in the Biostatistics module.

Additionally, I have been invited to teach a course on Introduction to Systematic Reviews in the specialty of Temporomandibular Disorders.

    Research interests

Currently, I am working on research lines exploring the relationship between periodontitis and systemic diseases such as dementia and cognitive decline, as well as studying biomarkers present in oral fluids.

Additionally, we have been applying qualitative research in dentistry through phenomenological studies. I also have an interest in research on the diagnosis and treatment of halitosis and regenerative periodontal therapies.
