Professional Information
Occupational Therapist and holds a Bachelor's degree in Human Occupation Sciences from the University of Chile. She earned her Master's and Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from New York University, USA. Currently, she serves as an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Universidad de los Andes, where she teaches in the School of Occupational Therapy and is actively involved in the Health Research Scientific Committee.
Additionally, she is the Director and Occupational Therapist at Centro STEPS, an institution dedicated to the care of children with autism spectrum disorders and other neurodivergencies.
Research interests
Dr. Wachholtz specializes in the self-regulation of preschool and school-age children, with a particular focus on those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Her research centers on developing inclusive educational programs and intervention strategies that promote self-regulation and meaningful participation in daily activities.
She has led projects funded by the National Inclusive Projects Fund (FONAPI), such as the development of an educational platform to raise awareness and support individuals within the autism spectrum, based on the needs of autistic communities from various regions of Chile.
Teaching
Delivers courses related to research procedures and supervises theses in the School of Occupational Therapy at Universidad de los Andes. Her pedagogical approach is characterized by integrating clinical practice with applied research, fostering comprehensive education among her students.
Additionally, she has participated in workshops and seminars on self-regulation in neurodivergent students, contributing to the professional development of colleagues and students in the field of inclusive education.
