Professional Information

He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Rennes, France; a Master’s degree in Philosophical Foundations from the Universidad de los Andes; and a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities with a specialization in History and Philosophy from Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez.

He is currently the Director of Signos, the Center for Social Sciences Studies and Research at Universidad de los Andes, as well as an Associate Professor at the university’s Institute of Philosophy. He is also a columnist for El Mercurio, host of the radio program Réplica on Radio T13, and a panelist on national current affairs programs for the same outlet and on Tolerancia Cero on CNN Chile.

In 2023, he became a full member of the Chilean Academy of Social, Political and Moral Sciences.

He is the author of several books, including Naturaleza y Comunidad (2008) and Nos fuimos quedando en silencio (2016), and contributed a chapter to El derrumbe del otro modelo (2017). In 2023, he published Salvador Allende: La izquierda chilena and Enseñar entre iguales. La educación en tiempos democráticos. His most recent book, Los inocentes al poder. Crónica de una generación, was published in 2025.

Research interests

His academic work focuses on political philosophy, addressing both its theoretical foundations and its applications in the analysis of historical and contemporary phenomena. He examines concepts such as political freedom, democracy, social conflict, and the relationship between ethics and politics, exploring how these have been interpreted throughout the tradition of Western political thought.

He is particularly interested in the study of liberal thought, republicanism, and the tensions between pluralism and unity in political organization. He also reflects on the moral foundations of public life and the role of the citizen in democratic societies, linking his research with the analysis of Chile’s political and social context.

Teaching

He teaches Political Philosophy courses at the Faculty of Social Sciences and also contributes to doctoral training in philosophy.

In addition, he actively participates in public debate as a columnist for El Mercurio and as a panelist on programs such as CNN Chile’s Tolerancia Cero, connecting his academic reflections with the national political agenda.
