Personal profile

Professional Information

I was born in Antofagasta, Chile, a historical city in the middle of the Atacama Desert. I studied at the University of Antofagasta, where I obtained my professional title of Teacher of Biology. Then, I did a Master in Biomedical Sciences with a mention in Reproductive Biology and finally, I received my Doctor of Biology degree from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras. Currently, I am a research professor at the Universidad de Los Andes, Chile. I work in the laboratory of integrative and molecular physiology.

Research Interests

My research interests have focused on the areas of developmental biology, physiology, renal ischemia, and regeneration biology. In teaching I participate as a visiting professor in the Morphology and Embryology class for the Obstetrics program. Incredibly, when I started my doctoral studies, I lose my hearing. Currently, I have severe and progressive hearing loss with persistent tinnitus and a lack of sound discrimination. I had two options: change course, or I keep going. I decided to continue. It is not a limitation!
